The
cold war between iOS and android appears to rage forever. Both platforms have
advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, for an entrepreneur starting to
develop an app on either of these platforms, correct information is necessary.
Here's an illustration:
iOS
The
iOS has a lesser global presence in terms of usability. If the target crowd is
mostly Americans, iOS would be the perfect choice. The acceptance of the apps by iOS is
comparatively stricter as the users prefer a better performance, sleek looks
and will not accept substandard apps. They have a fixed set of tools that a
developer can use to create their apps. This is likely to be challenging in
terms of creativity as it needs to follow strict guidelines.
If
the app requires in app purchases, iOS app development
is the way to go, as it generates more revenue than any other platforms. Due to
exclusivity to apple, chances of fragmentation are negligible.
Android
The
main advantage of android operating system is its open source software. This
can mean two things for the app development. One, it is cheaper. That is, for
the first-time entrepreneur where cash is a major issue, an android app development will cost much lower due to this open source network.
This is because crowd created plug-in and simple frameworks can be used. One
does not have to build from scratch rather they can use frameworks. Secondly,
android users comprise 85% of global user traffic. Which means one can reach a
wide range of customers on this operating system.
The
markets for the android apps have very lenient restrictions on app submission.
They are not as strict as other platforms as it caters to a huge population.
Android also offers developers the liberty to use third party tools to develop
their apps.
However,
there is a downside to having this open source software. As there are a wide
variety of devices on which android can be used and the many number of
versions, there is scope for fragmentation. So it has to be tested on various
devices for smooth operation
Combination
Despite
all this, if the app development is something that has to reach all the population,
the app must be developed in both iOS and android. If the business requires a
network of users, it has to opt for a combination of both so as to avoid
missing out on a major user group.
The
developer needs to call right when it comes to a throw up between android or
iOS considering the target group.
